KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The No. 12/14 Tennessee soccer team secured its 12th victory of the season Sunday with a 1-0 win over Alabama at Regal Soccer Stadium.
Sunday’s win over Alabama capped an unbeaten home slate for the Big Orange, their first since 2021 and the first such feat of the Joe Kirt era. Additionally, UT (12-2-3) tied its single-season progam record of 13 shutouts with the result.
After earning 20 SEC points in the regular season, the Lady Vols clinched a first-round bye into the SEC Tournament and are slated as the No. 4 seed.
Jenna Stayart led the team in shots at four, with two on goal. Devin Davis was right behind her adding three shots, and an assist. UT recorded 15 shots in total, eight of which were on goal.
Following a scoreless first half in which the Big Orange applied pressure and controlled the possession, Tennessee broke through in the 56th minute when Davis found Kate Runyon, who tapped the ball in from inside the box.
Runyon has now logged three-game winners for the Lady Vols and has found the back of the net five times this season.
The Tennessee defense once again held strong in securing the shutout while allowing just one shot on goal. Tennessee goalkeeper Cayden Norris enters the postseason with 11 clean sheets and a 0.45 goals-against average.
UP NEXT: Tennessee turns its attention to postseason play for the SEC Soccer Tournament which runs from Nov. 2-9 in Pensacola, Florida. The Lady Vols, who have a bye into the quarterfinals, will face the winner of LSU and Auburn.
