For the past several years, Greeneville and Dobyns-Bennett have battled across nearly every sport — and that rivalry has carried over to the bowling lanes. Both programs have earned plenty of hardware at the conference, regional, and even state levels. On Tuesday night, they met in an early-season matchup to continue that tradition, with the Tribe ultimately earning the sweep.
Greeneville’s boys got off to a fast start as Evan Litchfield (215) and Jon Gilbert (206) lit up the lanes, helping the Devils grab an early 5-3 lead. Grayson Lockhart (158) and Dylan Brooks (154) kept Dobyns-Bennett within striking distance.
The Tribe responded in game two, storming back to take a 10-6 advantage behind Ryan Barrett’s 226, Cayden Melton’s 184, and Lockhart’s 183. Gilbert stayed consistent for Greeneville with a 196, while Aadin Sandige added a 169.
Greeneville claimed the first Baker game 141–127 to set up what looked like a dramatic finish. Dobyns-Bennett, however, closed strong, taking the final Baker 202–87 to seal the 18–9 win.
In the girls’ match, the Lady Indians jumped out to a commanding 6–2 lead behind Makenzie Place (158) and Madison Wilson (147). Carly McLeod (147) and Addison Phillips (136) paced the Lady Devils early on.
Dobyns-Bennett showed why they’ve been a conference powerhouse in game two, nearly sweeping all the points to go up 12.5–3.5. Place once again led the way with a 159, while Michaela Mahoney and Destiny Dishner each contributed 155s. Phillips matched that 155 for Greeneville, and Lylli Sopha added a 146.
The Lady Indians closed things out by taking both Baker games, 157–98 and 137–132, securing the 23.5–3.5 victory.
Greeneville’s boys return to action Thursday at Pigeon Forge to face Seymour before both Greeneville squads head to Knoxville on Saturday to take on Carter and Gibbs.
