In the opening game of the 40th annual Tiny Day/ Red Edmonds Memorial Tournament Jamie Jackson was in complete control from the circle and Greeneville’s offense used some big swings to light up the scoreboard in an 8-0 win over Chuckey-Doak.
The girls showed up ready to play and they did what we needed them to do to win,” Greeneville coach Lilly Million said. “We did the small things well, and I felt like they were prepared to play tonight.”
Jackson dominated the Lady Black Knights in the five-inning contest, striking out six, walking one and allowing two hits. She only allowed one ball to even carry into the grass, and that came with two outs in the fifth inning.
“Jamie was awesome today,” Million said. “She was working both sides of the plate. I’ve been really proud of her lately for how her ball is breaking. She is working her spots very intentionally. She was great tonight.”
Greeneville got the day started with two runs in the first inning. Brylee Tullock led off the side by slamming the first pitch she saw into left field for a standup double. She moved up on a passed ball and Baylee Ramsey scored her with a sacrifice bunt.
Kaley Garland was up next and ended up on third after an infield error. She scored on a groundout.
The lead grew to 3-0 in the second inning with the Lady Devils playing small ball. Kinslee Lewandowski was walked to lead off the side and then bunt singles from Jackson and Gabby Atchison put her on third.
With the bases loaded Tullock hit into a fielder’s choice that caught Jackson at third but allowed Lewandowski to score.
Greeneville kept adding in the third inning and grew its lead to 5-0. Brynlee Jones skipped a groundball through the gap on the left side of second base. Brooke Parsley then took advantage of a missed pop up in front of the plate.
Lewandowski scored Jones on a sacrifice fly and Abi Deeble knocked in Parsley on a single up the middle.
Chuckey-Doak put its first runners on base in the fourth inning, but they could not get all the way around the diamond. Jayden Myers walked and Elizabeth Manuel bounced a comebacker off of Jackson. Tullock at second base made easy work of the next two Lady Knights to end the threat.
The Lady Devils’ bats found new pop in the fourth inning. That started with Tullock who rocketed a line drive into the left-center gap and legged it into triple. Ramsey followed by dropping a fly ball into left field and used aggressive base running to turn it into a double.
Jones followed with the big hit of the contest, a towering two-run home run that pushed the lead to 8-0.
“Lately Brynlee has been really aggressive at the plate and we love that from her,” Million said. “Aggressive batters get things done. But when she gets behind in the count she doesn’t panic. That is what make her so good, and so tough for opposing pitchers.”
Jones finished the day 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Tullock was 2-for-3 with a double, triple and one RBI. Ramsey had a double and two RBIs.
For Chuckey-Doak Manuel and Paylin Shelton each had a single.
Manuel took the loss in the circle. In four innings she struck out two, walked two and allowed nine hits.
WEST RIDGE 12, CHUCKEY-DOAK 0
In the second game of the day in Hardin Park West Ridge took down Chuckey-Doak 12-0.
The Lady Black Knights struggled to handle West Ridge starter Miranda Henley as she was nearly perfect through innings. She struck out eight of the 10 batters she faced and the only blemish on her record was an error.
Chuckey-Doak did manage two hits off of reliever Zoey Blair. Madisyn Miller and Paylin Shelton each had a single.
West Ridge opened the game up with five runs in the third inning. Tegan Tipton had two-run double and Kami Clark had a two-run home run.
Lacey Fugate had a two-run home run in the fourth inning as the Lady Wolves lead grew to 9-0.
Jayden Myers took the loss in the circle. In four innings she struck out two, walked six and allowed 10 hits.
WEST RIDGE 4, GREENEVILLE 2 (SUSPENDED)
The final game of the night at Hardin Park was halted early because of lightning with West Ridge leading Greeneville 4-2.
The Lady Wolves were batting in the top of the fifth inning with one on and two out. There were seven minutes left on the game clock. The game will resume at 5:30 PM on Friday at Hardin Park.
“I’m excited to see what the girls do tomorrow. This could be a blessing in disguise. West Ridge had the momentum, but hopefully we come back tomorrow with fresh minds and fresh bodies,” Million said.
Greeneville took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Jones blasted a two-run home over the fence in straight away centerfield.
West Ridge was able to even the score in the third inning when Emma Wilson scored on a passed ball third strike.
Two more unearned runs crossed when Kami Clark fired a two-run single straight up the middle for the 4-2 lead.
Jones home run is Greeneville’s only hit in the game.
In the circle Jones has thrown 4 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts, two walks and four hits allowed. Only one of the runs she has allowed is earned.
