Greeneville 10 – East Hamilton 0 (5 innings)
Greeneville’s baseball team rode a red-hot offense—matching the rising temperatures—and a pair of strong pitching performances to secure two wins in the Buddy Hawk Classic on Saturday. The Greene Devils opened the day with a 10-0, five-inning victory over East Hamilton, then followed with a 7-0 win over Hazard County, Ky., to cap a perfect 3-0 weekend, outscoring their opponents 28-1.
Grayson Crosby got the start on the mound against East Hamilton and set the tone early, facing the minimum through the first two innings without allowing a hit. The junior finished with a three-hit shutout, striking out five and walking one while working efficiently behind a solid defensive effort that stranded four Hurricane runners.
Crosby also contributed at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a run scored. Tegan Begley and Jaxon Winter each added two singles as part of Greeneville’s 12-hit attack, while every other starter recorded at least one hit.
Greeneville took a 1-0 lead in the first inning thanks to Begley’s aggressive baserunning. After a two-out single, he advanced to second on a balk, stole third two pitches later, and scored when the catcher’s throw sailed into left field.
The Greene Devils added to their lead in the second. Crosby led off with a single, stole second, and moved to third on a Sam Thompson bunt single. Colton Smith followed with an RBI on a sacrifice bunt, and Winter delivered a two-out RBI single to push the lead to 3-0.
East Hamilton threatened in the fourth when Peyton Hunter led off with a double, but Crosby responded by retiring the next three batters to leave the runner stranded.
After adding a run in the fourth, Greeneville put the game away in the fifth with six runs on seven hits. The inning began with five consecutive singles, followed by a walk, a sacrifice fly, and two more base hits to break the game open. A wild pitch allowed Jack Lister to score the final run, ending the game via the mercy rule.
Greeneville 7 – Hazard County, Ky 0
Greeneville jumped out to a 2-0 lead through two innings and broke the game open with a five-run third.
Will Harmon led the nine-hit attack with two singles and an RBI, while Jaxon Winter, Maddox Bishop, Kaine Ricker, and Kase Spradlen each recorded a double. Spradlen also drove in three runs.
Silar Lewis earned the win, going 4.1 innings while allowing just two hits, striking out four, and walking two. Aiden Freeland closed out the game with 1.2 innings of relief, striking out three.
Greeneville, now 28-7 on the season, will travel to University High on Tuesday before hosting the Buccaneers at Dale Alexander Field on Thursday.
