The South Greene softball team was nearly perfect on defense on Monday afternoon and pounded 15 hits on offense on the way to taking down West Greene 10-3 in District 1-2A action.

“We played some really good teams over the weekend, and got really frustrated. So it was good to bounce back and have a good game tonight,” South Greene coach Amy Hawk said. “Kortnei (Bailey) did a really good job on the mound today, and we were nearly flawless on defense. Overall it was solid night.

The Lady Rebels celebrated senior night on Monday and all of their seniors had productive days at the plate. Paisley Brobeck was 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Kortnei Bailey was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Nevaeh Davis was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Whitney Reaves was 2-for-4 with three steals, Hailey Williamson was 2-for-4, Macy Roberts was 2-for-4 and Reagan Arrowood was 1-for-3.

“It was nice to see a bunch of girls get hits tonight. It was good to see our seniors get to enjoy senior night with a win where they all played well,” Hawk said.

The evening started with South Greene taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Reaves led off the side by racing down the first-base line for a bunt single. She scored the first run of the day on a groundout by Brobeck.

With two out Williamson fired a line drive up the middle and she scored when Davis skipped a groundball through the left side of the infield. Sadie Knowles then ripped a groundball down the first-base line and Davis scored from second.

The Lady Rebels scored two more runs in the second inning. Bailey Burrell reached on an infield error and Kortnei Bailey followed with a line drive to left field. Brobeck pushed them both across with a powerful shot to centerfield.

West Greene got on the board in the third inning to close the gap 5-1. Alexis Cutshall landed a fly ball in centerfield that knocked in Abby Cluesman from second base.

In the bottom of the inning South Greene went back to work and stretched the lead to 9-1. Arrowood started things by sending a line drive into left field. Roberts got a groundball through the left side before Reaves knocked in the first run.

Bailey banged a double off the left field fence to push across two more runs. She scored when Brobeck got a groundball past the third baseman.

The Lady Rebels plated one more run in the sixth inning. Davis led off the inning by splitting the left-center gap with a double. Knowles put down a sacrifice bunt to move her up and Roberts scored Davis on a groundball that made it through the left side.

For 6 2/3 innings South Greene played error-free defense, but the Lady Buffaloes were able to take advantage of a lone mistake in the top of the seventh. With two out Autum Carter reached safely on a booted ball to second base. Abagale Jackson came up next and blasted a two-run double deep into right field.

Bailey earned the win in the circle for South Greene. In seven innings she struck out six, walked two and allowed three hits.

Cluesman took the loss for West Greene. In six innings she struck out four, walked two and allowed 15 hits.

At the plate for West Greene Jackson had a two-run double, and Cutshall had an RBI single.

With the win South Greene improves to 7-1 in District 1-2A play while West Greene drops to 1-8. The Lady Rebels will be back in action on Tuesday against league leading Unicoi County.  West Greene will be at Cherokee on Thursday.
