Greeneville’s 9-10 year old All-Star team is still alive in tournament play after picking up a win over South Jefferson in an elimination game on Wednesday. They will face off with Morristown in the finals on Thursday night at 7:00.
Morristown Throttles Greeneville 14-4
Morristown’s 9-10 All-Star team pounded out 17 hits and advanced to the District 4 Tournament championship game with a 14-4 victory over Greeneville on Wednesday night at Popkin Field.
Greeneville was limited to three hits in the contest, all singles. Rhett Legard went 1-for-2 with an RBI, while Nate Metcalf finished 1-for-1 and Avrum Cook added a 1-for-2 performance.
Layton Crosby was charged with the loss for Greeneville after allowing eight runs on 10 hits over 2⅔ innings. He struck out two and walked five.
Greeneville Advances Over South Jefferson 15-12
Greeneville rebounded in the nightcap, rallying from an early deficit to defeat South Jefferson for the second consecutive night and eliminate them from District 4 Tournament play with a 15-12 victory.
Greeneville plated five runs in the second inning, but South Jefferson answered with an eight-run third to take an 8-5 lead. Greeneville responded with six runs in the fourth and added four more in the fifth before holding on for the win.
Avrum Cook drove in four runs to lead Greeneville’s 13-hit attack, collecting a two-run single and a two-run inside-the-park home run. Nate Metcalf added two doubles, while Kase Landers finished with a double and a single. Fowler Parton contributed two singles, and Morgan Anderson drove in three runs and doubled.
Rhett Legard got the start on the mound for Greeneville and did not factor into the decision. He allowed one run on one hit over 2⅓ innings, striking out two and walking one.
Nathaniel Bernard earned the victory in relief, allowing four runs on two hits over 2⅔ innings. He struck out six and walked four.
