Greeneville’s 9-10 All-Star team looked to keep its District 4 Tournament hopes alive Wednesday night against Morristown while trying to force an if-necessary championship game. Both teams produced plenty of offense, but Morristown pulled away for a 25-13 victory to claim the district title and end Greeneville’s tournament run.
Morristown raced to an 11-0 lead through the first two innings before Greeneville answered with five runs in the second and three more in the third to trim the deficit to 11-8.
Morristown regained control in the top of the fourth, sending 17 batters to the plate and scoring 11 runs to extend its advantage to 22-8.
Greeneville continued to battle, scoring five runs in the bottom of the fourth, but could get no closer. Morristown added three insurance runs in the fifth to seal the championship.
Greeneville finished with 10 hits, led by Kase Landers, Fowler Parton, and Morgan Anderson, who each collected a double and a single. Nate Metcalf added two singles, while Avrum Cook tripled and Justus Wood doubled.
