The Tennessee Sports Writers Association released its All-State softball teams on Wednesday, and four Greene County athletes were recognized for being among the best in Tennessee.
Greeneville’s Brynlee Jones was selected to the Class 3A team as pitcher. North Greene junior pitcher Hannah Brooks earned her second All-State selection. North Greene sophomores Josie Graham and Tralyn Southerland earned All-State nods as well.
In her senior season Jones elevated her game on both the rubber and at the plate to become an All-State level player.
The Milligan signee was Greeneville’s ace in circle this season. Jones pitched in 26 games this season, earning a 12-6 record with one save. In 128 innings she allowed 91 hits, and 48 earned runs. She struck out 185 batters, walked 79 and turned in a 2.625 ERA.
At the plate Jones may have been even better. She turned in a .431 batting average and .504 on-base percentage. She earned 44 hits with nine doubles, three triples, and eight home runs. She drove in 35 runs and scored 32 runs.
Brooks’ dominant arm was a big reason the Lady Huskies were able to return to the Class 1A State Tournament this season.
From the circle she threw 157.2 innings with a 17-7 record and two saves. She struck out 198 and walked only 27 while allowing 132 hits. Her ERA for the season was 2.22. In the postseason that ERA dropped to a prolific 1.196.
At the plate she hit .281 with a .355 on-base percentage. She had 27 hits with 11 doubles, one home run and 30 RBIs.
North Greene’s Graham dominated her opponents this season and the state’s sports writers took notice.
She led North Greene with a .351 batting average and .448 on-base percentage. She had 33 hits, 13 doubles and three home runs. Graham drove in 22 runs and scored a team best 44 runs. She had 19 walks and 27 stolen bases.
Defensively she split time at catcher and shortstop. At catcher she caught five of nine runners who tried to steal on her. As a shortstop she was responsible for 142 outs. She was named to the All-State team as a catcher.
Southerland added some important pop to North Greene’s lineup this season, and her postseason performance was a big reason the Lady Huskies advanced to the state tournament.
For the year Southerland hit .337 with a .387 on base percentage. She had 33 hits with four doubles, three triples and six home runs. She had 26 RBIs and 24 runs scored. In the postseason things got even better has she hit .519 with a .552 on-base percentage.
