Kingsport 8 – Greeneville 3
Greeneville hosted Kingsport Friday night at Eastman Credit Union Field, but the Axmen pulled away for an 8-3 victory, handing the Flyboys their third straight loss.
The Flyboys struck first, taking a 2-0 lead. Gabe Gray drove in the game’s first run with a sacrifice fly in the second inning before Matthew Cash added an RBI single in the third.
Kingsport broke through against Greeneville starter Dillon Kirksey in the fifth, tying the game before scoring twice more in the sixth to take a 4-2 advantage. Kirksey was charged with the loss after allowing 10 hits and four runs while striking out seven over six innings.
Greeneville trimmed the deficit to 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth, but the Axmen put the game away by scoring four unanswered runs over the final three innings.
Owen ten Oever paced the Flyboys offensively with a double and a single, while Bryan Williams Jr. added a double.
Greeneville will look to snap its three-game losing streak and get back in the win column Saturday night when it travels to Kingsport for the second game of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
