Johnson City 16 – Greeneville 4 (7-innings)
Johnson City got off to a fast start Tuesday night and never looked back, pounding out 14 hits en route to a 16-4 victory over Greeneville in the opening game of the three-game series.
The Doughboys struck for four runs in the first inning before adding three more in the second to build a commanding 7-0 advantage.
Greeneville got on the board in the bottom of the third when Matt Cash lined a one-out single to score Mark Sackerman, trimming the deficit to 7-1. Cash paced the Flyboys’ offense, finishing 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Johnson City continued its offensive barrage by scoring six runs in the fourth inning and another in the fifth to extend its lead to 14-1.
The Flyboys answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, but the Doughboys responded with single runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to secure the 16-4 mercy-rule victory.
Greeneville collected 11 hits in the loss. Along with Cash’s double and two singles, Owen ten Oever, Olin Ward, and Gabe Gray each contributed two singles.
Hudson Johnson was charged with the loss after allowing seven runs on five hits over two innings. He walked five and struck out two.
The series continues Wednesday with Fan Appreciation Night at Pioneer Park. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a Chick-fil-A card, with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
