Chuckey-Doak 3, Pigeon Forge 2
The Chuckey-Doak Lady Black soccer team battled with Pigeon Forge for 80 minutes on Thursday night and earned a hard fought 3-2 road, district victory.
Pigeon Forge scored in the 11th minute, but Caitlin Larsen gathered a Lady Tigers short punt and quickly lofted it into the back of the net to keep the game knotted 1-1 at the half.
In the 66th minute, the Lady Black Knights went up 2-1 when Larsen sent a cross to the back post that Brianne Bowen tapped into the net.
Pigeon Forge answered almost immediately and tied the game at 2-2.
In the 72nd minute, Larsen connected a pass to Kenley Merriam who shot low and away and into the side netting from just outside the 18-yard box to seal the Lady Black Knight victory.
The Lady Black Knights got a solid performance from Larsen, Bowen, Merriam, and Lindsey Rojas offensively, while Serenity Roper, Kennah Marshall, and Khloe Knight led the defensive back line. Chuckey-Doak keeper Sarah Yates had six saves in goal.
The Lady Black Knights improve to 3-2 overall, 1-1 in District 1-A action.
VOLLEYBALL
West Greene 3, Claiborne 0
The West Greene volleyball team traveled to Claiborne on Thursday night and picked up a 3-0 win, 25-11, 25-8, 25-14.
Sullivan East 3, Chuckey-Doak 1
The Chuckey-Doak volleyball team fell to Sullivan East on Thursday in a District 1-AA contest, 3-1 (24-26, 25-18, 25-21, 25-17).
Belle Karriker had 12 kills, two aces and four blocks for Chuckey-Doak. Jacey Taylor had 12 kills, Kallie Dobson had six kills and two blocks, Chloe Kirkpatrick had 26 assists and Macy Church had 20 digs.
GOLF
The Chuckey-Doak girls golf team picked up a win over University High on Thursday at Pine Oaks.
Chuckey-Doak’s Harley Thompson earned medalist honors by shooting a 42. Alexis Demming shot a 54 for the Lady Black Knights’ team score of 96.
University High shot a 105.
In the boys match Chuckey-Doak shot a 203 as a team. Ty Shelton led the way with a 47, Harrison Ayers had a 49, Knox McAmis 50 and Denver Huff 57.
Unicoi County won the boys match with a 187, and University High shot a 195.
