The Greeneville football team will be back at Burley Stadium on Friday night for another Region 1-4A matchup as the Seymour Eagles are coming to town.
Greeneville coach Eddie Spradlen expects a tough test for his squad as the Eagles come into the contest 3-0 and much improved compared to years past.
“This is another region game that means a lot,” Spradlen said. “Seymour is a much improved team. I expect a good environment on Friday night. It’s Military Appreciation Night, and it will be a big night with that going on. But I expect a big night on the field as well.”
The Eagles are not far removed from a 23-game losing streak that stretched from 2022 to 2024, but Caleb Olive took over as head coach a year ago and things have turned around quickly.
Seymour started the year with a 48-14 win over Gatlinburg-Pittman, the state runner up in Class 3A in 2025. The Eagles followed with a 42-8 win over Pigeon Forge and then beat Cocke County 50-0 last week. It is the program’s first 3-0 start since 2016.
“Seymour is coming in 3-0. They are scoring more than 40 points in every game and they aren’t giving up a lot either. I expect us to be tested, this is not the same old Seymour team. They are going to be one of the better teams in this region,” Spradlen said.
The Eagles’ offense is led by running back Grayson Davis who has run for 260 yards and six touchdowns so far this season. On the perimeter Greeneville will have to watch for Mason Brown who is averaging 21 yards per catch and has scored five touchdowns. The Eagles will use two quarterbacks with sophomore Levi Carlson acting as the primary passing threat while Broedy Ferree is more of a runner.
“On offense they are really similar to what we do,” Spradlen said. “They will be in the spread and use a tight end or an H-back at times. They’ll run zone and power, then they’ll get the ball to the receivers on the edge. They do a good job of getting the ball to their playmakers at letting them make plays.”
Greeneville will bring its own high-powered offense into the contest. The Greene Devils are 3-0 and ranked No.2 in the state in Class 4A. The Greene Devils are averaging 44.3 points per game while giving up 11.3 points per game.
Senior quarterback Kaine Ricker is the guy who makes things go for Greeneville Through three games he has thrown for 811 yards and completed 82 percent of his passes.
He has quite the arsenal to deliver the ball to with Taren Claridy, Braylen Kidwell and Zy Neal all averaging three or more catches per game and over 20 yards per reception. Claridy leads the way with 397 yards and seven touchdowns.
Greeneville leads the all-time series 5-0 with an average margin of victory of 50.8 points. Seymour has never scored more than six points on the Greene Devils and Greeneville has never been held to fewer than 35 points in the series.
