Rebels Visit Black Knights For Rivalry Showdown

County bragging right are on the line once again on Friday night as South Greene travels to Chuckey-Doak for what is expected to be a battle between two bitter rivals.

“It’s a county game and you shouldn’t have to say much more than that,” South Greene coach Shawn Jones said. “We know Chuckey-Doak doesn’t like us and that is a part of the rivalry. When those lights come on there is a lot of animosity there because we are so close. It’s always a big game for us and we have had some wars with them over the years.”

South Greene comes into this contest with a 2-2 record, but riding high  after defeating North Greene 41-6 last week. Chuckey-Doak is 3-1 but fell to Unicoi County last week, 41-28.

No player in the area is riding a hot streak like South Greene running back Tripp Neas who has 11 touchdowns in the past two weeks. He will be the player South Greene leans on offense and the payer Chuckey-Doak keys on when playing defense. Last week he touched the ball over 80 percent of the time when he was on the field on offense.

“They are going to keep doing what is working for them,” Chuckey-Doak coach Billy Kaylor said. “They have shown they can they run the football well and they want that to be their identity.  That’s a good formula to win a lot of high school football games, and with a back as talented as (Neas) I expect him to get a lot of touches. I expect the offense to run through zero.”

While Chuckey-Doak’s defense will have all eyes on one player South Greene’s defense may not have enough eyes to track all the players the Black Knights may give the ball to.

Chuckey-Doak has split quarterback reps between Kiptyn Ball and Brody Myers. On the perimeter Skylar Davis has proven to be one of the most dangerous players around while Braxton Lowe and Cobe Love can be playmakers as well. In the backfield Brayden Greene, Marcus Britt, Avery Parkey and Zaiden Schacke will all spend time carrying the rock.

Seven different Black Knights have found the endzone through four games.

“If feel like they use two quarterbacks, 25 receivers and about 15 running backs,” Jones said. “They can do a lot of different things and they use a lot of different players. Coach Kaylor does a great job with that offense. They run the ball, they throw the ball, they use a few formations, we just have to be prepared for a little of everything.”

A year ago South Greene won the meeting 42-0. South Greene leads the all-time series 39-12, and has won three in a row. The only common opponent they have met so far is North Greene. South Greene beat the Huskies 41-6 and Chuckey-Doak won 60-27.

With a win Chuckey-Doak could complete the sweep of its county Rivals. South Greene still has a meeting with West Greene next week.

Kickoff for Friday’s contest is scheduled for 7 PM. The game will be broadcast live on the Greene Sports Zone Facebook and YouTube pages as well as WIKQ 103.1 FM and WSMG 95.5 FM.
