Just one week ago Greeneville took down Sevier County who was the number one team in 5A. Some teams might come out the next week flat, over confident or unfocused, but not the Greeneville Greene Devils. They took the trip to Rogersville and handled their business, taking down Region 1-4A foe Cherokee 63-13.
Greeneville improves to 7-0 on the season and 4-0 in conference play ahead of a bye week next week.
It was running back Jude Dyer who got the scoring started early with 11:33 left in the first quarter with a 30 yard dash to the end zone. Putting the Greene Devils up 7-0.
Cherokee quarter back Cade Putnal, quickly responded with a 74-yard touchdown to Branson Mowell to tie the game up with 9:27 left in the first quarter.
It only took 24 seconds for Greeneville to go back in front. Kaine Ricker returned the favor with a 68-yard touchdown pass to Taren Claridy to put the Greene Devils back up 14-7.
We’ve seen the Ricker-to-Claridy connection pay off for 3 TDs in the first half here at Cherokee.

When talking about the week preparation after such a big win over the Smokey Bears Ricker said, “That was a really big game last week but we had to keep that same energy this week.”
With 1:38 left in the first quarter, Ricker found Zy Neal for a 26 yard touchdown pass to extend the lead to 21-7.
The Ricker and Claridy tandem struck again with 11:37 left in the second quarter when the senior took in a screen pass and raced 42 yards past the defense for his second touchdown of the day.
Ricker ended his day under center by going 7-of-7 for 250 yards passing and three touchdowns.
With 7:33 left in the second period Dyer found the end zone again with a five yard run up the middle to push the Greene Devils’ lead 35-7.
Ricker’s big day continued to get better. With 6:21 left in the second quarter Ricker turned his knack for big plays to the defensive side of the ball. Playing safety he picked off Putnal and returned it 26 yards for a touchdown that stretched Greeneville’s lead to 42-7.
