Let’s try this again.
After lightning cut short North Greene’s trip to Cosby three weeks ago the Huskies will get on the bus again on Friday night and head back to Cocke county for their rescheduled contest with the Eagles.
Cosby comes into the contest with a 5-1 record and ranked No.10 in Class 1A in the latest TSWA Poll.
“Cosby is a good football team with a pretty dynamic offense. They are deserving of their state ranking,” North Greene coach Eric Tilson said. “This game has been really tight for three or four years in a row. It has gone back and forth, and it has major implications on our region. Both of our programs have risen at the same time and it has created a budding rivalry. We have to play well.”
The Huskies lead the all-time series 16-12 over Cosby, but Cosby has won five of the last eight contests. The Eagles defeated North Greene, 26-14, in 2024 for the Region 1-1A Championship and spoiled North Greene’s chance at a first region title. The Huskies avenged that loss with a 35-19 win on The Tundra last season and helped North Greene host a playoff game.
Last week the Eagles took down Cloudland 58-16. In that win quarterback Spencer Moore was 5-for-5 through the air for 132 yards, and he ran for 84 yards. Running back David Baker ran for 88 yards and scored three touchdowns.
For the year Cosby is averaging over 350 yards and 42.2 points per game.
“Their running back returns from last year and he has multiple 1,000-yard seasons. They have a new face at quarterback and he is quite possibly one of the most talented athletes in our league. He can run it and throw it. They do a good job of getting him space. We have our work cut out for us defensively. We have to make tackles,” Tilson said.
North Greene is now 2-4 on the season and has lost three in a row. Last week they fell 41-20 to Jellico.
Tilson feels like his team needs to find their confidence this week after falling to state-ranked opponents in each of the last two weeks.
The Huskies’ offense is averaging over 300 yards per game while scoring 24.8 points per game, but they have turned the ball over 16 times in their six games. Tilson stressed that not giving the ball away will be key to success this week.
“We cannot turn the ball over. They have been ball hawks and we can’t allow cheap interceptions. They are capable of going out and making a play, but we can’t give the ball to them,” Tilson said.
Cosby is unbeaten in Region 1-1A play, and is tied at the top of the league standings with Jellico. Hampton is 3-1 in league play while Cloudland, North Greene and Sunbright are all 1-2.
Kickoff for Friday’s contest is scheduled for 7 PM at Cosby.
