Tusculum sprinter Isaiah Olson and the beach volleyball duo of Kyla Oppenhuis and Landry Tea have been named the Zaxby’s Athletes of the Week.
Olson, a junior from Greeneville, Tennessee, won the 100 meters at the Electric City Invitational with a program record time of 10.27 seconds. He established a career-best 20.93 seconds in the 200, which was just off the school-record time (20.86) set in 2019. Olson was also part of the meet-winning 4×100 relay team which posted a time of 40.60 seconds. His performance helped the Pioneers to a runner-up finish in the team competition.

The duo of Oppenhuis (Crown Point, Ind.) and Tea (Gallatin, Tenn.) posted a perfect 4-0 doubles record as the Pioneers recorded four league victories over the weekend in Jefferson City. TU’s No. 4 pairing didn’t drop a set as the Pioneers knocked off Emmanuel (3-2), Catawba (4-1), Wingate (4-1) and Erskine (4-1). With the wins, Tusculum improves its SAC record to 6-4 to finish the regular-season second in the conference standings. Oppenhuis and Tea improve to 9-4 overall and 6-1 in SAC competition.

The Tusculum University Athlete of the Week Award is sponsored by Zaxby’s, located at 3280 Andrew Johnson Highway in Greeneville. The Zaxby’s Athlete of the Week Award honors one male and one female athlete each week from an in-season sport.
