GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — Carson-Newman University scored twice in seven minutes early in the second half to take a 3-1 victory over Tusculum University in South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer Wednesday evening at Pioneer Field.

Selina Jud scored two goals for the Eagles (6-6-3, 3-5-3 SAC), who fell behind 1-0 in the first minute to the Pioneers (4-11-1, 2-8-1 SAC) on a goal from Adriana Netskos. Jud scored the tying goal in the 15th minute and the eventual winner in the 51st minute, with Molly Bukiewicz adding an insurance tally in the 58th minute for the Eagles.

Carson-Newman outshot Tusculum 19-11 in the match, with Pioneer keeper Noemie Tartrou making seven saves and Eagle keeper Berna Kabakci coming up with six stops.

Tusculum took the quick 1-0 lead at 58 seconds as a corner kick from Alexis Roessler was played off the head of Brynn Stokes to Netskos, who headed a shot to the far post past Kabacki for her second goal of the season. It was the fastest goal from the start of a match for the Pioneers since Patience Leonard scored 38 seconds into a 7-1 win at West Georgia on Sept. 19, 2010.

The Pioneers nearly made it 2-0 in the 11th minute on a shot from distance by Trystan Wepking that hit the crossbar squarely above a leaping Kabakci.

Tartrou came up with back-to-back saves on Jud and Bukiewicz in the third minute, but was beaten by Jud at 14:19 as she collected a pass down the middle from Savannah Fields and drove a shot into the top right corner for her third goal of the season.

Carson-Newman outshot Tusculum 11-4 in the first half, but the teams were knotted at one thanks to five saves in the half from Tartrou, the reigning SAC Defensive Player of the Week.

The Pioneers had a chance in the first 2 1/2 minutes of the second half as Sydney Grant carried toward the goal but her shot was repelled by Kabakci. Just about five minutes into the half, Jud got her second of the match as she gathered a free kick from Alayna Corbitt and beat Tartrou to the far post at 50:01.

The Eagles stretched their lead to 3-1 at 57:07 as a loose ball in the box was played by Bukiewicz, who played the shot into the top part for her second of the season.

Kabakci made her best save of the evening in the 73rd minute after a Carson-Newman defender slipped, allowing McKenzie Hanson to have a one-on-one opportunity. However, Kabakci kicked a leg and made the save to keep the two-goal lead for the Eagles. Tusculum’s last chance would come in the 80th minute on a shot from distance by Wepking that Kabakci stopped.

The Eagles had a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks over the Pioneers, while Carson-Newman was whistled for 18 fouls to just six for Tusculum. Both teams were flagged twice for offsides.
