KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Chaz Lanier of the University of Tennessee men’s basketball team is the SEC Co-Player of the Week, as announced Monday afternoon by the league office.

A fifth-year guard from Nashville, Tenn., Lanier shared the distinction with Alabama’s Mark Sears. This is the third such recognition of the season for Lanier, who also garnered it both Nov. 25 and Jan. 6.

Tennessee has now earned four SEC Player of the Week accolades in 2024-25, as Zakai Zeigler received the honor Dec. 30.

In the Volunteers’ lone contest last week, Lanier dropped a season- and game-best 30 points to lead the team to a 77-69 road win Saturday at seventh-ranked Texas A&M. He shot 10-of-18 from the field, including 8-of-13 from 3-point range to set a career high in makes, log the most makes by a Volunteer in the Rick Barnes era (2015-25) and tie the second-most makes by an SEC player this season. He also matched the second-highest total ever by a Volunteer, becoming the fourth—fifth occasion—to knock down at least eight long-range shots in a game.

Additionally, Lanier became just the second SEC player in the last 20 seasons (2005-25) to score 30-plus points in an AP top-10 road win, including the only one to do so in league play. He is also the first Division I player with 30 points, eight made 3-pointers and five rebounds on the road against an AP top-10 team since Oklahoma’s Buddy Hield did it in a 3OT game at Kansas on Jan. 4, 2016, and the first in regulation since Connecticut’s A.J. Price at Marquette on Feb. 25, 2009.

Lanier ranks third nationally with 3.48 made 3-pointers per game, good for the most in the SEC. He is third in the league in 3-point percentage (41.4) and fourth in points per game (18.0). Through 27 games in his lone season on Rocky Top, Lanier has scored in double figures 25 times, with 17-plus in 18 outings, 21-plus in 11 contests and 25-plus in five affairs.

Thirteen different individuals have combined for 24 total SEC Player of the Week distinctions in Barnes’ 10-year tenure. Lanier is the fourth in that group to notch at least three wins, joining Dalton Knecht (four), Grant Williams (four) and Admiral Schofield (three). He is the third with three designations in the same year, alongside Knecht (four in 2023-24) and Williams (three in 2018-19).

Lanier and fifth-ranked Tennessee (22-5, 9-5 SEC) are back in action Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET in Baton Rouge, La., where they face LSU at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center, live on SEC Network.
