The TSSAA announced its finalists for its Mr. and Miss Basketball awards on Thursday morning and Greeneville’s Trey Thompson was one of three finalists for Class 3A’s Mr. Basketball award.

Thompson, a junior who is receiving interest from Division I college programs like the University of Tennessee and Purdue, is averaging 24 points and 10 rebounds per game. He has helped the Greene Devils earn the top seed in the upcoming District 2-3A Tournament. This is the second year in a row that Thompson has been named a finalist for the award. The other finalists in the Class 3A are Cade Capps of Stone Memorial and Ty Cobb of Upperman.

The Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards will be presented to the top girls and boys in six classifications of the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association at the Tucker Theater on the campus of MTSU on Tuesday, March 18 at 5:30 p.m. The event will be open to the public.

A statewide committee of sportswriters selected the winners based on performance during the 2024-2025 regular season. Academics and character were also taken into consideration. High school head basketball coaches and members of the media nominated the finalists.

This is the 40th year that the Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards have been presented to Tennessee’s best high school basketball players.
