Wingo Earns AVCA All-America Honors

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Deklan Wingo of Tusculum University men’s volleyball becomes the first American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American in program history, receiving honorable mention on Monday (May 5) afternoon.

Wingo, a native of Chester, Virginia, earned back-to-back IVA Player of the Year honors, winning the league’s offensive player of the week honors twice this season. The senior outside hitter also racked up IVA All-Tournament Team and an AVCA National Player of the Week laurel, the first in program history. He landed a program-record 32 kills in his final match as a Pioneer. Wingo also collected Tusculum Male Athlete of the Year at last week’s banquet.

Wingo reset the marks for single-season kills (525), kills per set (5.05), attempts (1051), attempts per set (10.11), and digs (164). He finished second with a .348 hitting percentage, 39 service aces, and 1.58 digs per set. Wingo currently leads the nation in attempts per set, kills per set, and points per set (5.77).

In his career, Wingo owns the kills (1248), kills per set (3.35), attempts (2731), attempts per set (7.34), ace (93), points (1456.0), and points per set (3.91) record for the program. He finished second in service aces per set (0.25), digs (441), solo blocks (58), block assists (114), total blocks (172), sets played (372), and matches played (104).

The Pioneers (15-13) set a program record for single-season wins and earned the No. 3 seed in the IVA Tournament.
