KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Eight days after collecting her second ITA All-America honor, Elza Tomase of the University of Tennessee women’s tennis team earned another major distinction.

Tomase, as announced Wednesday afternoon by the ITA, is among five female student-athletes who have qualified for professional opportunities through the ITF College Accelerator Program.

The others are Auburn’s DJ Bennett, Michigan’s Julia Fliegner, Texas A&M’s Mary Stoiana and Georgia’s Dasha Vidmanova.

With the program now in its third year, this partnership aims to bring professional opportunities on the ITF World Tennis Tour (WTT) to the highest ITA-ranked women players in college tennis. Players ranked in the Top Five of the ITA Year-End Singles Rankings, as well as players who reach the NCAA Singles Final, are eligible for the ITF College Accelerator Program.

In total, the ITF College Accelerator Program will award five main draw places into WTT events (one W75, two W50, two W35) to any qualifying student-athlete who is not returning to college. Meanwhile, for any returning student-athletes, this program will award three main draw places (one W75, two W50) to qualifying student-athletes.

Tomase, a Honda Award finalist, earned her spot by finishing fourth in the nation in the singles rankings. She went 26-12 as a senior, notching eight wins over ranked opponents. The four-time All-SEC designee ended her illustrious career with 98 singles triumphs, 10th-most in program history.
