South Greene High School has named Alex Arwood as the newest baseball coach for the Rebels.
He expressed his excitement in accepting the new position by saying, “I’m really excited for it. Baseball was probably one of my better high school experiences. We played some pretty good baseball when I was there and I’d like to get it back to that,” he described.
Arwood precedes Dalton Ramsey who was at the helm for the past three seasons and spent one season as an assistant coach.
He steps into a program coming off a down season where they were eliminated in the District 1-2A semifinals to Chuckey-Doak and finished 4-22 (3-7). Four seniors leave the program, but a majority of this year’s team will be returning and Arwood aims to rebuild with them. “I’d like to build on some of the guys returning. I know they lost a lot of upperclassmen, but I’ve coached most of these kids in their years of middle school. There’s a lot of potential there.”
He detailed that his main goal going forward was, “putting a quality team on the field that wins some baseball games while having fun doing it.”
Coach Arwood isn’t new to this position either. He has been a part of several South Greene teams at many different levels and was the head coach for the program for one season. He has been a head coach for the football, basketball, and baseball programs at South Greene Middle and Nolichuckey Elementary School before.
“At the end of the day I’m a South Greene boy and just want to say, go Rebels!”
