OAKMONT, Pa. – Tennessee men’s golf redshirt senior Lance Simpson is set to compete in his first major Championship at the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club.

The 125th U.S. Open tees off on Thursday, June 12 and runs through Sunday June 15.

Simpson, who is currently WAGR No. 31, qualified for the event after shooting 8-under at Bent Tree Country Club’s sectional qualifier. He is one of 15 select amateurs in the field at Oakmont this week.

The Knoxville native is coming a 2024-25 season in which he earned All-America Honorable Mention Honors by both Golfweek and PING and was UT’s highest finisher in six of its 12 tournaments this season while also posting four top-10 finishes.

Additionally, Simpson posted a career-high 24 rounds of par or lower this season, which marks the third-most in a single season in program history.

COURSE INFORMATION
Oakmont Country Club | Par 70 | 7,372 Yards

This marks the 10th time the U.S. Open will be contested at Oakmont, which is three times more than any other club.  It will also be the club’s 17th USGA championship, which ranks one behind fellow Pennsylvania venue Merion Golf Club for the most all time. The course, which is known as one of golf’s “cathedrals” is known for its quick greens and iconic “Church Pew” bunkers on the third and fourth holes.
