The Tennessee Sports Writers Association released its All-State softball teams on Saturday and three local athletes were honored with state-wide recognition.
North Greene’s Loren Blevins was named to the Class 1A All-State team, South Greene’s Madison Hensley was named to the Class 2A All-State team and Greeneville’s Kyla Jobe was named to the Class 3A All-State team.
Jobe was selected to the All-State team for the second year in a row after a truly remarkable season at the plate. She turned in a .631 batting average with a .694 on-base percentage. She pounded 65 hits with 12 doubles, six triples and eight home runs. Jobe drove in 42 runs while scoring 59 runs. She stole 24 bases and struck out just four times in 124 plate appearances.
On defense the shortstop had a 94.7 fielding percentage with 108 put outs and eight double plays.
Earlier this week Jobe announced her commitment to play at Lipscomb University next spring.
Hensley turned in some eye-popping stats as well this year as she helped South Greene claim the District 1-2A regular season and tournament titles. She turned in an impressive .588 batting average with a truly astounding .720 on-base percentage.
Hensley had 30 hits in 19 games with three doubles, three triples and one home run. She scored 39 runs from her leadoff spot and was 23-of-24 on steal attempts.
On defense she had a 93 percent fielding percentage with 42 putouts, 38 assists and four double plays.
North Greene took a young roster to the Class 1A State Tournament this season, with six freshmen in the starting lineup, and much of that success can be attributed to the senior leadership Loren Blevins provided.
The utility player was selected to the All-State team as an outfielder after earning a .370 batting average and .414 on-base percentage. She had 37 hits, seven doubles, four triples and three home runs. She drove in 34 runs and scored 34 runs while adding 19 steals.
The truly versatile bat in the two spot of the Lady Huskies’ lineup was just as comfortable as laying down a bunt and she was firing a line drive into the gap.
