ATLANTA, Ga. (July 13, 2025) – A cornerstone player in ETSU baseball’s historic 2025 campaign will be moving on to the professional ranks as shortstop Cody Miller was selected in the third round (96nd pick) in the 2025 MLB Draft by the Atlanta Braves on Sunday evening. Miller was not only the first SoCon player off the board but he also became the fourth-highest draft pick in the history of the program trailing only Atlee Hammaker (1979 – 21st  – Kansas City Royals), Landon Knack (2020 – 60th – Los Angeles Dodgers) and Wayne Dannenberg (1983 – 76th – Philadelphia Phillies).

Miller is the third Buccaneer to be selected in as many years in the MLB Draft joining Cameron Sisneros (Chicago Cubs in 14th round) last year and Austin Emener (Colorado Rockies in 16th round) in 2023. Furthermore, he is the fourth Buc to be selected by the Braves in the history of the event with the last being Hagen Owenby in 2017. Miller is the 56th selection or signee with an MLB organization in the program’s history.

As stated earlier, Miller played a vital role in ETSU’s historic 2025 season. The Rocky Point, N.Y. native started every game at shortstop for the Bucs and hit near the top of the order throughout his junior campaign. For the season, Miller hit .331 with 18 home runs and 58 RBI with a team-high 27 stolen bases. After hitting just four home runs in his first two seasons as a Buc, Miller hit those 18 homers in 2025 to go along with 15 doubles to finish with an OPS of 1.053. For his play all season long, Miller landed a spot on the All-SoCon Second Team and was named to the league’s All-Defensive Team.

Miller was especially good in the postseason for the Blue and Gold hitting .500 in the SoCon Tournament to help ETSU capture its first SoCon Tournament Championship. He continued to produce in the NCAA Tournament hitting .333 with a pair of home runs against Louisville and Wright State.
