The Greeneville girls golf team opened the season with a second-place finish at the 5 Star Preps Masters held at Three Ridges Golf Course in Knoxville.
The Lady Greene Devils shot a two-day score of 297 to finish three strokes behind reigning Division II-A state champion Christian Academy of Knoxville. Knoxville Catholic was third at 315.
The Lady Greene Devils went into Wednesday’s final round holding a three stroke lead after Kamryn Renner and Kylee Renner each shot a 75 on Tuesday. on Wednesday Kylee Renner shot another 75 and Brylee turned in a 72. Catron’s score was the second lowest round on Wednesday and one of just five rounds in the tournament played at or below par.
Kylee Renner’s two day total of 150 was good enough for third place as an individual. Isabella Coughlin of CAK shot a 141, with a 69 on Wednesday, to finish in first place.
The Greeneville boys finished in 11th place out of 15 schools with a two-day total of 636. Hardin Valley shot 572 to win the tournament at four under par. First Baptist Academy was second at 576 and Maryville was third at 598.
Nathan Howlett led Greeneville with a 151. Bryson Ricker had a 157, Landon Alridge shot 157 as well, Wolfgang Rayburn 171, and Brayden Shelton 174.
Hardin Valley’s Jake Sheffield was the individual champion with a 137. He beat Leo Huddleston of Maryville in a one-hole playoff.
