The Greeneville soccer team was in full control on Tuesday night at Fox field as it took down Jefferson 3-0 to start a busy week.
Greeneville High struck first in the 11th minute when Aliyah Johnson capitalized on a short rebound to open things up. The early goal set the tone for a dominant first half despite Greeneville being frustrated by a series of offside calls.
Jefferson County’s defense relied heavily on their goalkeeper, who recorded six saves in the opening period.
Despite those defensive efforts, Greeneville extended its lead in the 32nd minute through Peyton Vaught. The goal came after sustained pressure and a clear advantage in time on the ball for Greeneville. By halftime, the score stood at 2-0 in the Lady Devils favor..
The second half continued in the same fashion, with Greeneville controlling possession and creating numerous scoring opportunities. Vaught struck again in the 66th minute to complete her brace, effectively sealing the game for Greeneville.
Jefferson County struggled to gain any meaningful momentum as Greeneville’s attack stayed relentless.
Statistically, the possession imbalance was evident in the shot totals and corner kicks. Greeneville produced 24 shots with 15 on target compared to Jefferson County’s five shots, only two of which were on goal. Corner kicks also favored Greeneville heavily, with a 9-1 advantage.
The match ended as a 3-0 Greeneville win in which the Lady Devils displayed dominance on both ends of the field.
Jefferson County’s keeper kept the score line respectable with multiple key saves, but the relentless pressure proved too much. Greeneville’s combination of attacking pressure and control in midfield defined the match from start to finish.
Greeneville will next head to the Bearden Invitational in Knoxville where it will take on Heritage on Thursday and Oak Ridge on Saturday. Both games are at Bearden High school.
