CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Tennessee women’s golf team secured a second-place finish at the Cougar Classic Sunday after registering a 16-under total at Yeamans Hall Club.
The Lady Vols posted an 8-under showing in round one, went 11-under in round two and 3-over in the final round. The second round score of 273 (-11) ties for the lowest round two score in relation to par in program history.
Sofie Engeseth and Kyra Van Kan led the way individually for the Big Orange after registering top-five finishes. The duo shot 6-under apiece through 54 holes. Van Kan went under-par each round while Engeseth fired two under-par rounds and a final round of even par.
In her collegiate debut, Thitikarn Thapasit logged a top-25 finish after shooting even-par through 54 holes. The freshman’s first two rounds were 2-under 69s and her final round was a 75.
Senior Manassanan Chotikabhukkana placed just one shot outside the top 25 with a three-round total of 1-over. Chotikabhukkana provided two counting rounds for Tennessee after shooting a 70 and 68 in rounds one and two, respectively.
Freshman Madison Messimer bounced back nicely in the final round of her collegiate debut tournament to log an even-par 71. The Myrtle Beach, S.C., native concluded the event tied for 42nd.
UP NEXT: In less than two weeks Tennessee will head north to Ontario, Canada, for the Canadian Collegiate Invitational at Beacon Hall Golf Club. The event is set to run from Monday, Sept. 22 to Tuesday, Sept. 23.
