SOCCER
Chuckey-Doak 3, Cumberland Gap 2
The Chuckey-Doak soccer team earned a hard fought road win versus the Cumberland Gap Lady Panthers on Tuesday by a score of 3-2.
The Lady Black Knights got on the scoreboard first when Lindsey Rojas headed in a Hailey Williamson corner kick in the 11th minute.
The lead was short lived however, as the Lady Panthers answered and tied the game at 1-1.
Just before the half-time whistle Williamson sent a through ball for Rojas to run onto, fire a shot, and score for the 2-1 halftime lead.
The Lady Black Knights and the Lady Panthers battled for the first 15 minutes of the second half until a Chuckey-Doak defensive miscue left a Lady Panther unmarked and the result was a tying goal that set the score at 2-2.
In the 67th minute Lindsey Rojas sent a cross from midfield that freshman Caitlin Larsen ran down and shot across the keeper into the side netting to give Chuckey-Doak the 3-2 lead.
From there, the Lady Blacks defense took over led by Addy Bradley, Kennah Marshall, Serenity Roper, and Jakindsey Church giving the Lady Panthers no chances to tie the game and preserved the 3-2 victory.
Chuckey-Doak keeper Cora Merrill had nine saves in goal.
The Lady Black Knights, 3-5-2 overall, 1-3 in District action, travel to Unicoi Thursday for a 6:30 kickoff.
Greeneville 9, Cherokee 0
The Greeneville soccer team went to Cherokee on Tuesday and picked up a 9-0 win in District 2-AA action.
Peyton Vaught scored four goals for the Lady Greene Devils. Matea Gray had three goals and an assist. Angelyn Diaz had a goal and an assist and Kinsley Spradlen scored a goal.
VOLLEYBALL
North Greene 3, Hampton 0
The North Greene Volleyball team earned a 3-0 win over Hampton on Tuesday evening, 25-15, 25-7, 25-17.
Josie Graham had nine kills for the Lady Huskies. Matti Phillips had four kills and five aces. Tralyn Southerland had five kills, Callie Dobson had three kills and Chloe Keys had two aces.
Elizabethton 3, Greeneville 2
The Greeneville volleyball team fell to Elizabethton on Tuesday 3-2, 19-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-20, 15-9. The loss Greeneville’s first in District 1-AA play.
West Greene 3, Happy Valley 0
The West Greene volleyball team stayed unbeaten in District 1-A play on Tuesday by beating Happy Valley 3-0.
GOLF
At the District 1-A Golf Tournament West Qualifier the Greeneville boys and girls golf team both earned first place finishes.
The Lady Greene Devils were led by Brylee Catron who shot a one-under par 70 to earn medalist honors. Kamryn Renner was second overall with a 76 for Greeneville’s team score of 146. Kylee Renner was third overall with a 78.
Chuckey-Doak was second as a team and also advanced to next week’s District 1-A Tournament. Addilyn Boesch shot a 92 and finished fifth overall. Harley Thompson shot a 98 for Chuckey-Doak’s team score of 190. Kyleigh Crawford shot a 99 for the Lady Knights.
South Greene’s Khloe Laws (97) and Kialey Howell (122) advanced to the district tournament as individuals.
On the boys side South Greene’s Brennan Gregg was the individual champion with a 73 and teammate Keannan Hankins was close behind with a 74.
As a team South Greene came in third place with Cameron Kinser shooting an 83 and Collin Treadway shooting a 103 for a team score of 333.
Greeneville shot a 315 as a team to place first. Nate Howlett led the way with a 75 and finished tied for third place as an individual. Carson Waters shot a 77 and was fifth, Landon Alridge shot an 81, and Bryson Ricker 82.
West Greene’s Thomas Cogsdell (83) and North Greene’s Isaac Gaby (87) advanced to the district tournament as individuals.
The District 1-A Tournament will be held September 22 at Elizabethton Golf Course.
