ROGERSVILLE – Greeneville’s Brylee Catron and South Greene’s Brennan Gregg finished on top of the field on Tuesday at the District 1-A Tournament West Qualifier, while the Greeneville boys and girls took home the team titles at McDonald Hills Golf Course.

“We played good enough to win today and advance to the district tournament next week. That was the goal,” Greeneville coach Nathan Hale said. “A lot of our kids didn’t play as well as they wanted to or maybe should have, but next week is a course with different conditions and some different teams and things can fluctuate. We’ll have to play better next to keep advancing.”

Catron had the low score of the day and the only score under par with a 70 as she led the Lady Greene Devils to a first-place finish. Kamryn Renner shot a 76 for Greeneville’s team score of 146. She was second overall. Kylee Renner was third overall with a 78.

“I felt like I played pretty good overall, I had one bad shot, but overall, it was a good day,” Catron said. “I felt like my putting was good, and overall, I hit my driver pretty good. It feels good to get a win, and to get the team win. The twins played good too, and I’m proud of how we played.”

Chuckey-Doak was second as a team and also advanced to next week’s District 1-A Tournament. Addilyn Boesch shot a 92 and finished fifth overall. Harley Thompson shot a 98 for Chuckey-Doak’s team score of 190. Kyleigh Crawford shot a 99 for the Lady Black Knights.

Volunteer was third as a team with a 191. Baylee Rose led the way with an 80.

South Greene’s Khloe Laws (97) and Kialey Howell (122), and Cherokee’s Keircee Manis (97), Trinity Williams (130), and Maggie Jones (131) advanced to the district tournament as individuals.

In the boys tournament South Greene’s Brennan Gregg had the best day, carding a 73 to take medalist honors.

“I felt like I could have played better. I had a triple and a double, and need to be more consistent,” Gregg said. “But it feels pretty good to get the win. Now I just have to get through districts, and region and get to state. I have to spend some time working on putting and my driver, other than that I just need to do what I did today.”

South Greene’s Keanan Hankins was second overall with a 74 and the Rebels placed third as a team which allows them to advance to the district tournament. Cameron Kinser had an 83 and Colin Treadway shot a 103 for South Greene’s team score of 333.

The Greeneville boys finished in first place on Tuesday with a 315 team score. Nate Howlett led the way with a 75 which tied for third place. Carson Waters shot a 77 and was fifth, Landon Alridge shot an 81, and Bryson Ricker 82.

The District 1-A Tournament will be held September, 22 at Elizabethton Golf Course. The qualifications tournament’s were held on Tuesday because of the expansion of District 1-A to 15 teams after TSSAA changed how it classified golf in the offseason.

In the Eastern Qualifier the Elizabethton, Sullivan East and Johnson County boys, and the Elizabethton, University High and Sullivan East girls advanced to next week’s tournament.

West Greene’s Thomas Cogsdell (83) and North Greene’s Isaac Gaby (87) advanced to the district tournament as individuals.

Cherokee was second as a team with a 328. Porter Owen led the way with a 75.

Volunteer’s Colton Miller (82), Brock Mowell (87) and Jonah Williams (87) also advanced as individuals.
