The Chuckey-Doak girls started fast on Saturday and made quick work of University High as they collected a 63-29 win.
It was the Lady Black Knights second win in as many nights after they took down Happy Valley on Friday, and that had coach Tanner Earley felling good.
“I felt like we played extremely well from the jump. After playing last night I didn’t know how they would come back, but we had a good shoot around this morning and they played a really good game tonight. Coming off of a huge conference win it was good to see the girls play hard and play aggressive again tonight.”
Chuckey-Doak started the night in a full-court press and University High had trouble settling into any type of offensive rhythm.
The Lady Knights went in front 6-2 when Hayleigh Seidl stole possession and set up Cristen Bishop for a breakaway layup. With 3:27 left in the first period the lead reached double digits at 16-6 when Chloe Kirkpatrick turned a steal deep in the backcourt into a triple.
Carlene Bishop took a steal the length of the floor to make it 21-8, and Jessie Dayton ended the first quarter with a three-pointer that pushed Chuckey-Doak’s advantage to 26-10.
Less than a minute into the second quarter Cristen Bishop connected from behind the arc to increase the lead to 30-10.
Three-pointers from Kirkpatrick and Jayden Myers followed before Carlene Bishop ran the floor for a transition bucket.
Chuckey-Doak went to halftime leading 42-17.
The Lady Black Knights spread the attack around on Saturday and put four players in double figures. Carlene Bishop and Myers each had 13 points while Cristen Bishop and Kirkpatrick each scored 12 points.
“That balance was huge for us. To spread the ball around and get four of those five starters in double figures was great to see. But not just the starters, everybody played great tonight,” Earley said.
In the second half Chuckey-Doak pulled out of its press, but still managed to score the first 11 points of the third quarter as the lead grew to 53-17.
Kirkpatrick started the period by scoring on a steal before Carlene Bishop, Myers and Kirkpatrick all scored on second-chance opportunities.
The lead moved to 56-19 when Kirkpatrick set up Cristen Bishop for a transition bucket.
After University’s Emma Linkous scored four points the score going into the fourth quarter was 56-24.
The Lady Buccaneers were held to one field goal in the fourth quarter while Khloe Henderson scored four points for Chuckey-Doak as they captured a 63-29 win.
Linkous scored 19 of University’s 29 points.
