Coalfield 60, Tennessee 54
Coalfield began this year’s action with a 60-54 win defeating Tennessee High.
Tennessee held narrow 14-10 and 24-21 leads after the first and second quarters, but Coalfield came storming out of the locker room and outscored the Lady Vikings 23-10 in the third and led 44-34. The 10-point lead evaporated in minutes after Tennessee went on a 15-3 run to steal the lead with 4:51 left. Coalfield ended the matchup on an 11-5 run to win.
Sophomore Lily Wright led Coalfield with a game-high 21 points and 6 rebounds with 5 assists on 6-of-15 shooting. Addie Wilhoit led Tennessee with 19 points.
Grace Christian 55, Cherokee 53
Grace Christian survived a late storm from Cherokee and held on for a 55-53 win.
Grace fell behind 8-4 in the first and ended on a 6-0 run to lead 10-8 after one. They extended their leads to 24-19 and 42-31 after the second and thirds before the comeback attempt began. The Lady Chiefs outscored them 22-13 in the fourth, but ran out of time.
Cherokee freshman Kenady Deal led all scorers with 21 points on 7-for-12 shooting. Addy Roberts led Grace Christian with 17 points on 6-for-12 shooting.
Cocke County 74, Chuckey-Doak 24
Cocke County defeated Chuckey-Doak 74-24 on Friday night.
The Lady Knights only trailed 19-11 after the first and trailed by five a few seconds into the second before it got out of hand. Lady Red scored 37-straight and held Chuckey-Doak scoreless for over 15 minutes.
Ellie Proffitt led Cocke County with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Karmine Carmichael had 9 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists. Jayden Myers and Chloe Kirkpatrick led Chuckey-Doak with 7 each.
Alcoa 69, North Greene 46
Alcoa ran away from North Greene and won Friday’s main event 69-46.
Alcoa led 19-11 after one and continued to extend the lead after each quarter. The Lady Tornadoes won every quarter in a game that included 47 total fouls and some physical play.
North Greene’s Tralyn Southerland led all scorers with a game-high 19 points and game-high 10 rebounds. Harper Stinnett led the Tornadoes with 11 points and 6 rebounds. Eleven different players scored for Alcoa which was a high for the day.
