In its first District 1-2A contest of the season the South Greene softball team hit the ball all over the park and finished the evening with a 13-3 win over Chuckey-Doak.

“Chuckey-Doak got off to a really good start, but we had a good answer,” South Greene coach Amy Hawk said. “After giving up some runs early our defense was really strong. We had good at bats all the way through the lineup. The girls worked deep into the count, and we were able to get a lot of hits.”

The Lady Rebels earned 12 hits with seven different players earning a hit while 10 different players reached base.

Macy Roberts led the way for South Greene by going 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Kortnei Bailey went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Paisley Brobeck was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. Neveah Davis was 2-for-3.

Chuckey-Doak started the day swinging the bat well and took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Jayden Myers  got things started with a walk and scored when Madisyn Miller dropped a single over first base into shallow right field.

Elizabeth Shelton used a line drive up the middle to knock in Hayleigh Seidl and Paylin Shelton sent a line drive into left field to score the Lady Black Knights third run of the side.

South Greene was immediately able to answer with three runs of its own in the bottom of the first.  Bailey started things with a line drive to left field, and she scored from second on Sacrifice bunt by Hailey Williamson that was thrown away at first base.

Brobeck scored on a groundout, and Davis evened things at 3-3 when she ripped a groundball down the third-base line to push across Williamson.

“It was a really big deal to answer them immediately. We got things back to even, and got the momentum on our side. That allowed us to start fresh again,” Hawk said.

The Lady Rebels opened the game up with eight runs in the third inning. Sadie Knowles and Davis led off the side with back-to-back singles, and Roberts knocked in the first run with double that traveled to the centerfield fence.

Davis scored on a bases-loaded walk and Roberts scored when Whitney Reaves skipped a groundball through the left side. Brobeck hammered a double into left field to push across two more runs, and then Davis hit into an error that allowed the lead to grow to 11-3.

South Greene was able to add two more runs in the fourth inning. Bailey slammed a double deep into left field to score Reaves from second base. A bobble in the outfield allowed Bailey to reach third on the play and she went on to score on a wild pitch.

Bailey earned the win in the circle for South Greene. In five innings she struck out six, walked one and allowed six hits. Four of those hits came in the first inning and after that Chuckey-Doak did not put another player in scoring position.

Myers took the loss for Chuckey-Doak. In two innings she walked four and allowed eight hits. Elizabeth Manuel threw two innings with one strikeout, four walks and four hits allowed.

South Greene is now 4-0 in the season and 1-0 in District 1-2A play. Chuckey-Doak is 2-6 and 1-3 in league play.
