The West Greene Buffaloes (0-7, 0-1) will be searching for their first win of the season on Friday night when they travel to Elizabethton for a road game with Region 1-2A rival Happy Valley (8-0, 1-0).
The Buffs know that Friday night’s matchup is a very tall task. Friday’s game has a lot of postseason implications and will also determine if West Greene has a chance at hosting a playoff game in November or if they will be forced to travel on the road.
Buffaloes’ head coach Evan Monroe spoke about Friday’s matchup by saying, “This is a region game. We’ve got to go play for four quarters and we’ve got to go be successful in everything we do. With Happy Valley you turn on the film and they’re big and physical. They’ve got some guys who can run a little bit. They don’t throw the ball very often. I think if they can beat you and never throw a pass, they will and they want to.
Happy Valley has been producing eye-popping numbers up to this point. They are holding their opponents to an average of 6.8 points per game on defense and scoring an astonishing 50.5 points per game. They have back-to-back games with 60+ points and have won 22 of their last 25 games after starting 2023 with an 0-3 record.
West Greene is scoring 11.8 points per game and allowing 37.4 points per game. They have allowed 40+ points in four-straight games.
“They’re good, but we see glimpses of good from us too. We’ve just got to put it together for four quarters and make this thing a ball game,” Monroe exclaimed.
History is not on West Greene’s side either. The Buffs are 4-32 all time in their 36 meetings with the Warriors. Happy Valley has won 29-straight. West Greene’s last win in the series came in 1983.
“They are a really good football team and they don’t beat themselves,” Monroe mentioned.
Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM at Happy Valley High School.
