GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — Tusculum University and Mars Hill University played to a 0-0 draw Saturday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference men’s soccer at Pioneer Field.
The teams combined for three shots on goal, with two from the Pioneers (2-5-1, 1-3-1 SAC) and just one from the Lions (3-1-5, 1-0-3 SAC). Noe Delmotte recorded his second shutout of the season for Tusculum while Logan Cassel had his sixth shutout in nine games for Mars Hill.
The best scoring chance of the match for Mars Hill came in the 27th minute, when Carrick Bromage took a shot that was saved by Delmotte, with Jens Haukeland sending the rebound over the crossbar.
Tusculum’s best opportunity was in the 29th minute, as a free kick by Jean Grah went off the crossbar above Cassel. The Pioneers’ two shots on goal came from Devin Vital from distance in the 25th minute and from Filippo Canaletich in the 63rd minute.
Overall, Tusculum had a 12-4 edge in shot attempts over Mars Hill in the match. Both teams had two corner kicks and the Pioneers were called for 16 fouls to 14 for the Lions.
The Pioneers travel to Nashville to face Trevecca Nazarene on Wednesday at 7 p.m. (Eastern). The Trojans (3-4-1) will carry a three-match losing skid into Sunday’s Gulf South Conference match at West Florida.
