Six local tennis athletes competed in the Region 1-A Tournament on Monday at Johnson City Country Club but saw their seasons come to an end in the semifinals.
In girls singles South Greene’s Ari Hoese was defeated by Kaitlyn Harper of L&N STEM Academy 6-2, 6-1. South Greene’s Brooke Howell fell to Evie Clark of Gatlinburg-Pittman 6-0, 6-3.
Clark went on to defeat Harper 6-4, 6-0 in the finals and advanced to the state tournament.
In girls doubles West Greene’s Cassidy Hill and Aleea Aiken were eliminated by Gatlinburg-Pittman’s Harjani and Barrett 6-4, 6-3. Chuckey-Doak’s Khloe Henderson and Alyssa Gaby fell to Alcoa’s Piercy and Crisp of Alcoa 6-0, 6-1.
Piercy and Crisp went on to win the region championship and advanced to the state tournament.
In the Region 1-AA Tournament in Kingsport Greeneville’s Emma Sauceman and Brylee Catron fell to Science-Hill’s Madison Berry and Lizzy Luna 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinals.
SOFTBALL
ALCOA 14, CHUCKEY-DOAK 0
The Chuckey-Doak softball team saw its season come to an end on Monday in the Region 1-2A Tournament semifinals with a 14-0 loss to Alcoa.
Alcoa Pitcher Kaylea Osborne tossed a no-hitter with eight strikeouts and one walk in four innings of work.
Abi Donaho took the loss for the Lady Knights. In two innings she struck out one, walked one and allowed six hits. Jayden Myers threw one inning with three walks, no strikeouts and four hits allowed.
Saniah Atchison worked a walk and was the only Lady Black Knight to reach base.
Dylan Jablonski and Tori Hahn each had a home run for Alcoa.
NORTH GREENE 12, COSBY 0
The North Greene softball team extended its season on Monday night by beating Cosby 12-0 in the Region 1-1A semifinals.
The Lady Huskies advance to Wednesday’s region championship game where they will play the winner of Unaka and Hancock County. They have also clinched spot in Friday’s state sectionals.
In the circle Hannah Brooks was close to perfect for North Greene. She faced 13 batters and struck out 10 of them in a no-hit effort. The only blemish was a walk in the fourth inning.
At the plate Loren Blevins was perfect, going 3-for-3 with a home run, triple, three RBIs and three runs scored.
Josie Graham was also 3-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and three runs scored.
