GAME 1: Greeneville 10, Seymour 9
The Greeneville baseball team got its Class 3A State Sectional series with Seymour started on Wednesday by battling for 11 innings before earning a 10-9 win.
After the game stayed tied at 8-8 for four innings Seymour took a 9-8 lead in the top of the 11th. Greeneville answered with two runs in the bottom of the 11th. Carson Quillen got things started with a single through the left side, and two walks loaded the bases. Quillen tied the game by scoring on a wild pitch. Kobe Mundy then walked it off with a ground ball to the right side that scored Maddox Bishop.
The two teams combined for 29 hits in the contest. Greeneville earned15 hits and worked 14 walks. From his leadoff spot Quillen was 4-for-5 with two walks, and four runs scored. Will Harmon was 4-for-5 with a home run, double, six RBIs and two walks. Mundy had three hits and Bishop had two hits.
Randen Fillers earned the win in relief. In five innings he struck out two, walked three and allowed three hits.
Game 2: Greeneville 6, Seymour 1
In game two on Wednesday the Greene Devils picked up a 6-1 win over the Eagles, and clinched a berth in the Class 3A State Tournament.
Greeneville’s state tournament will begin at 4 p.m. on Tuesday at Smyrna against South Gibson.
Seymour jumped in front 1-0 in the first inning, but after that pitcher Carson Norris shut down the Eagles. He went the distance with four strikeouts, two walks, and three hits allowed. Two of those hits came in the first inning.
At the plate Greeneville earned eight hits. Harmon, Quillen and Jeriah Griffin each had a double.
Greeneville heads to the state tournament with a 32-8 record.
SOFTBALL
North Greene 7, Hancock County 3
The North Greene softball team captured the Region 1-1A championship on Wednesday by defeating Hancock County 7-3.
The Lady Huskies used eight hits to score their seven runs. Matti Phillips was 2-for-4 with and RBI. Charlie Turnmire had a double, while Kinlea Eastep, Loren Blevins, Josie Graham, Heidi Trentham, and Jourdanne Marr had singles. Kennedy Malone had two RBIs.
In the circle Brooks earned the win. In seven innings she struck out three, walked three and allowed six hits.
Eagleton 7, South Greene 3
The South Greene softball team’s season came to an end on Wednesday in the Region 1-2A semifinals after falling to Eagleton 7-3.
The Lady Rebels led the whole way, but a rough seventh inning flipped the game and sent Eagleton to the region championship game.
South Greene earned eight hits on Wednesday. Whitney Reaves, Sadie Knowles, and Hailey Williamson each had two hits. Knowles drove in two runs.
In the circle Kortnei Bailey took the loss. In six innings she allowed eight hits, walked eight and struck out none.
