DAHLONEGA, Ga. — A six-goal outburst in a span of 23 minutes boosted 18th-ranked University of North Georgia to a 6-0 victory over Tusculum University in non-conference women’s soccer Wednesday afternoon at the UNG Soccer Complex.
The Nighthawks (4-1-0) were even at the half with the Pioneers (0-4-0) but a goal from Nina Lopez in the 53rd minute triggered the offensive eruption for North Georgia. Madelyn Neff scored twice for the Nighthawks with a goal apiece from Blanca Cruz, Angelina Noorbehesht and Lilyana Hernandez, and two assists from Grace McGill.
North Georgia outshot Tusculum 28-3 in the match, with Nighthawks keeper Kayleigh Marreel making one save. Julia Olsson had five saves for the Pioneers in 73:43 of playing time, with Holly Cowan making three saves in the final 16:17 including a penalty kick from North Georgia’s Ashlyn Tillery in the 79th minute.
After playing three ranked opponents in their first four matches of the season, the Pioneers open South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 12 at Coker beginning at 1 p.m. The Cobras (2-3-0, 0-1-0 SAC), who lost their conference opener to Anderson 3-2 on Sunday, are coming off a 2-0 victory at USC Beaufort on Wednesday.
