TENNIS
On Tuesday a pair of Greene County tennis pairs advanced to the District 1-A Tournament finals and earned appearances in next week’s Region 1-A Tournament.
In the girls doubles championship game Ari Hoese and Bailey Ricker of South Greene defeated Cassidy Hill and Aleea Aiken of West Greene 6-1, 6-4 to claim the district title.
Hoese and Ricker advanced to championship game by first beating Dimas and Henderson of Chuckey-Doak 8-1. They beat Bentley and Brittain of Elizabethton 9-7. Then in the semifinals they beat Shaw and Mullins of Johnson County 6-1, 4-6, 10-7.
Hill and Aiken started their district tournament by beating Wilhoit and Howell of South Greene 8-5. They won 8-1 over Stanberry and Hardin of Elizabethton. In the semifinals they won 6-0, 6-3 over Pearson and Scalf of Cherokee.
The local All-District 1-A selections were Logan Malone, Braylon Fox, Gabby Dimas and Khloe Henderson of Chuckey-Doak, Jackson Peters, Parker Quillen, Brylee Catron and Emma Light of Greeneville, Mikey Johnson, Wyatt Brashears, Teagan McGuire and Veronika Abrosikov of North Greene, Brant Wilhoit, Kaiden Fillers, Ari Hoese and Bailey Ricker of South Greene, and Shane Wilhoit, Keatton Potter, Cassidy Hill and Journey Lamons of West Greene.
SOFTBALL
Greeneville 7, West Greene 2
The Greeneville softball team picked up a 7-2 win over West Greene on Thursday night.
Jamie Jackson and Khloe DeBord combined to throw a no-hitter. Jackson went 4.2 innings with three strikeouts, two walks and no hits. DeBord had one strikeout, two walks and no hits.
At the plate Jackson was 3-for-3. Katie Johnson was 2-for-3 with a double. Brylee Tullock had three RBIs.
For West Greene Abagale Jackson took the loss. In two innings she struck out two, walked one and allowed six hits.
Cocke County 9, North Greene 2
The North Greene softball team wrapped up the regular season on Tuesday in a 9-2 loss to Cocke County.
The Lady Huskies were held to two hits. Kinlea Eastep and Eva Leonard each had a single.
Matti Phillips took the loss in the circle. In 3.2 innings she struck out three, walked two, and allowed six hits. Charlie Turnmire threw six innings with no strikeouts, no walks and seven hits allowed.
Cloudland 24, South Greene 6
The South Greene softball team fell 24-6 to Cloudland on Thursday.
The Lady Rebels produced 12 hits in the loss. Kortnei Bailey was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Whitney Reaves was 2-for-4 with a double. Reagan Arrowood was 2-for-3, Macy Roberts went 2-for-3 and Hailey Williamson had a double.
Bailey took the loss in the circle. In two innings she struck out one, walked six and allowed four hits.
BASEBALL
Greeneville 10, Volunteer 0
The Greeneville baseball team got the postseason started on Thursday by beat Volunteer 10-0 in the District 2-3A Tournament at Tusculum.
Randen Fillers was dominant on the mound. In five innings he struck out eight, walked one and allowed one hit.
At the plate the Greene Devils produced 10 hits. Colton Smith was 2-for-2 with four RBIs. Kaine Ricker went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Sam Thompson was 2-for-2 with an RBI. Grayson Crosby was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Branton White had a double and two RBIs.
Greeneville will take on Grainger on Friday in the winners bracket finals.
Chuckey-Doak 2, Johnson County 0
The Chuckey-Doak baseball team kept its season going on Thursday night by beating Johnson County 2-0 in the District 1-2A Tournament.
Lynkin Cutshaw was in full control on the mound, striking out nine, walking one and allowing two hits in a complete game effort.
At the plate Knights were held to two hits. Cooper Seay had a single and drove in both runs, and Kiptyn Ball had a single.
Chuckey-Doak advances to play Happy Valley on Friday in Elizabethton.
Happy Valley 5, South Greene 3
The South Greene baseball team saw its rally come up short on Thursday night as it fell to Happy Valley 5-3 in the District 1-2A Tournament.
The Rebels produced eight hits in the loss. Colten Fillers was 2-for-4. Maddux Brown, Cameron Kinser, Eli Fillers, Tyler Davis, Cayden Fillers and T Ricker all had one hit.
Kinser took the loss for the Rebels. In six innings he struck out one, walked five and allowed six hits.
The loss ends South Greene’s season with a 4-20 record.
Hampton 16, North Greene 8
The North Greene baseball team fell to Hampton 16-8 on Thursday in the District 1-1A Tournament.
The Huskies fall into the losers bracket and will be back in action on Saturday against Unaka at Sullivan East.
The Huskies produced 13 hits in the loss. Tyler Britton was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Isaac Gaby went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Jaiden Bailey was 2-for-4 with a double. Owen Pierce was 2-for-4.
Aidan Halley took the loss. In five innings he struck out seven, walked two and allowed 10 hits.
