BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second time in three weeks, Tennessee’s Tegan Kuhns was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week following another dominant performance in the Volunteers’ series-opening win over No. 3/4 Texas last Friday night.
Kuhns stifled the Longhorns all night long, striking out a career-high 15 batters to tie the SEC single-game high this season. The 15 punchouts were also the most by a UT pitcher since June 4, 2005, when James Adkins notched 15 versus Winthrop in the NCAA Knoxville Regional.
The sophomore right-hander also allowed just four hits and one walk over seven shutout innings to earn his fourth win of the season, outdueling SEC Pitcher of the Year contender Dylan Volantis in the process.
Friday’s outing marked the latest in a string on impressive starts for Kuhns, who has not given up a run in three of his last four starts while tallying at least nine strikeouts in each of those three scoreless appearances.
Kuhns joins Liam Doyle (three times in 2025) and Chase Dollander (twice in 2022) as the only Vols to win multiple SEC Pitcher of the Week honors in the same season this decade.
