North Greene 10, Hancock County 0
The North Greene softball team kept its season going on Monday evening by beating Hancock County 10-0 in the Region 1-1A Tournament.
The Lady Huskies advance to the region championship game on Wednesday where they will host Cloudland.
North Greene earned nine hits on Monday. Kinlea Eastep and Addi Dean each had two hits. Matti Phillips had a double and two RBIs. Hannah Brooks had two RBIs. Josie Graham scored two runs.
Brooks earned the win. In three innings she struck out three, walked none and allowed one hit. Phillips threw one inning with a strike out and a walk. Charlie Turnmire threw one inning with two strikeouts, and one hit allowed.
Eagleton 14, South Greene 0
The South Greene softball team’s season ended on Monday night in the Region 1-2A Tournament with a 14-1 loss to Eagleton.
The Lady Rebels were held to three hits in the loss. Whitney Reaves was 2-for-2 and scored South Greene’s only run. Hailey Williamson had a single and an RBI.
Nevaeh Davis took the loss. In 3.2 innings she struck out none, walked four and allowed 13 hits.
TRACK AND FIELD
A handful of local track and field athletes found out that they qualified for at-large spots at the state championship track meet on Monday.
In Class A South Greene’s Miranda Metcalf and Eva Weems earned spots in the girls pole vault.
In the boys pole vault South Greene’s Colton Green and Chuckey-Doak’s Elijah Barker are both going to state.
South Greene’s Tripp Neas qualified in the boys shot put and South Greene’s Noah Case qualified in the 3,200 meters. In the discus Chuckey-Doak’s Parker McMurry earned a trip to the state meet.
In Class AA Greeneville’s Mason Marion will be going to state in the 110 meter hurdles.
The state meet will be held on May 19 in Knoxville.
