The Greeneville Flyboys snapped their four-game losing streak Sunday afternoon with a hard-fought 10-8 victory over the Elizabethton River Riders.
Elizabethton struck first, scoring once in the opening inning and adding two more in the second to build a 3-0 lead. Greeneville answered with a run in the bottom of the second before taking control of the game with nine unanswered runs. The Flyboys plated four runs in the fourth inning and added five more in the fifth to grab a 10-3 advantage.
The River Riders refused to go away quietly, scoring four runs in the sixth and another in the seventh to cut the deficit to two. Elizabethton brought the potential go-ahead run to the plate in the final inning, but the Flyboys held on, leaving the tying run stranded at second base to secure the 10-8 win.
Amari Jefferson paced Greeneville’s offense with a perfect 3-for-3 performance while driving in four runs. Gabe Gray added a double to help lead the Flyboys’ attack.
Brenden Selph earned the victory with two scoreless innings of relief, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out two. Cody Blair recorded the save, giving up one run on one hit over the final inning. He also struck out one and walked one.
The Flyboys return to action Tuesday when they open a three-game road series against the Pulaski River Turtles. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
