MIDDLE SCHOOL FOOTBALL ROUNDUP: Monday, August 10th & Thursday, August 13th

MONDAY, AUGUST 10TH

South Greene 14, Chuckey-Doak 8

Only 3 minutes and 24 seconds were played last Thursday between South Greene and Chuckey-Doak, but the rest of the regularly scheduled matchup was completed on Monday night. South Greene committed four turnovers, but still managed to leave Camp Creek with a 14-8 win over county rival Chuckey-Doak.

Braevyn Myers raced 60 yards to the end zone on Thursday and South Greene held a 6-0 lead for 96 hours over the weekend.

Both offenses struggled while both defenses shined on Monday. Nobody scored until South Greene’s Jamie Devera sprinted into the end zone for a 26-yard score at the two-minute mark in the third quarter.

Chuckey-Doak cut into the lead late with a 9-yard touchdown pass from Julian Overstreet to Preston Baker. Overstreet scored the two-point conversion and closed the gap to 14-8 with just under three minutes to play.

The Black Knights couldn’t force a stop on fourth down and the Rebels iced the game with a 32-yard run from Keaton Dyer.

South Greene produced 254 yards of offense with 241 of those in the rushing department. Chuckey-Doak was held to just 91 yards on offense.

South Greene started 1-0 and continued their winning streak from last season. The Rebels moved on to Thursday with a game with Cosby (see below). Chuckey-Doak’s winning streak ended and begin the season 0-1. The Black Knights were off on Thursday and return to action on August 20th hosting Cocke County.


THURSDAY, AUGUST 13TH

South Greene 44, Cosby 0

South Greene traveled to Cosby for a conference game with and left with a 44-0 shutout win.

Braevyn Myers led the offense with 6 rushes for 103 yards and 1 reception for 2 yards and a touchdown. Kaden Reaves had 2 rushes for 67 yards and a touchdown. Jamie Devera rushed 8 times for 25 yards and a touchdown. Keaton Dyer was 3-for-3 for 6 yards and had 2 carries for 18 yards and a rushing touchdown. Jaxson Merriam went 1-for-2 with 18 yards and had 3 rushes for 37 yards and a touchdown.

South Greene combined for 276 total yards (246 passing and 30 rushing) in the win.

Jamie Devera led the defense with 8 tackles and a forced fumble. Kaden Reaves had an interception and returned it for a 90-yard pick six and recovered a fumble. Braevyn Myers and Summitt Beach were nightmares on defense and combined for 3 sacks each. Hunter Wilburn and Benson Justice also added sacks. The Rebels combined for 8 sacks on Cosby quarterbacks and held the Eagles to only 68 total yards.

South Greene improved to 2-0 and travel to Bulls Gap next Thursday.


North Greene 30, Hancock County 0

The North Greene Huskies dealt with rain in their regular season opener and moved Tuesday night’s game to Thursday. It didn’t matter in the end as North Greene defeated Hancock County 30-0.

North Greene begins the season 1-0 and hosts North View next Thursday at home.

 

West Greene 0, Providence 41

West Greene started off the season with a 41-0 loss to Providence.

Ian McCamey accounted for 40 passing yards and 35 rushing yards. Bradley Bowman rushed for 33 yards and Caleb Barrington rushed for 28 yards. Cooper Jones had an interception on defense.

The Buffaloes begin the season 0-1 and travel to Rogersville Middle School next Thursday.

 

Greeneville POSTPONED

The Greene Devils were set to host Boone on Thursday night, but rain and lightning within the area put a halt on Thursday’s action and postponed the matchup.

Greeneville hosts Robinson next Thursday at Burley Stadium at 5:30 PM.

 

Chuckey-Doak OFF

The Black Knights were off on Thursday and are set to host Cocke County next Thursday in Lower Afton.
