GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — The Tusculum University men’s tennis team won its 11th match in a row on Tuesday with a 7-0 victory over Mars Hill in South Atlantic Conference action at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
The Pioneers (14-3, 7-0 SAC), ranked 30th in Division II entering the week, did not lose a set to the Lions (1-11, 1-7 SAC) to extend their unbeaten streak that dates to February 29.
Tusculum won the doubles point as Nemanja Subanovic and Miles Ray beat Sasha Molina and Diell Mehmedi 6-3 at flight one, Will Gee and Anton Krondell defeated Marcos Martinez and Youssef Ardouni 6-3 at flight two, and Rens Verhaar and Tijn van Gorkom slipped past Diego Lopez and Collin Maides in a tiebreaker at flight three by a 7-6 (7-2) score.
In singles, Yuki Ikeda beat Mehmedi 6-0, 6-4 at flight four, Felipe Velaszquez Quintana defeated Chase Jorensen 6-3, 6-0 at flight six, and Ivan Ivars downed Molina 7-5, 6-4 at flight two. In the remaining matches, Gee beat Martinez 6-3, 6-3 at flight one, Sarthak Sharma won 8-1 in a pro set over Ardouni at flight five, and Verhaar claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win over Lopez at flight three.
The Pioneers are slated, weather permitting, to host Carson-Newman on Thursday, April 4 at 2 p.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
