The Greeneville baseball team dropped both ends of a double header to North Gwinnett, Georgia on Wednesday evening at Tusculum University in the Buddy Hawk Classic.
The Greene Devils dropped game one 6-1, and then fell 8-7 in game two.
In game one Greeneville struggled to get its bats going and only earned two hits. Carson Norris and Kaine Ricker both had singles. Norris scored the Devils’ only run.
On the mound Randen Fillers took the loss. In four innings he struck out four, walked four, and allowed five hits.
Sam Thompson threw two relief innings with one strikeout, no walks and one hit allowed. Jaxon Winter threw the final inning with no strikeouts, no walks and no hits allowed.
Game Two – North Gwinnett 8, Greeneville 7
In game two Greeneville got off to a better start and took a 3-2 lead in the first inning.
Carson Quillen led off the game with a double to the left center gap and scored on an infield error. A wild pitch allowed Carson Norris to score, and a throwing error on the same play allowed Will Harmon to give Greeneville the lead.
North Gwinnett used three doubles and three singles in the fifth inning to score five runs and take an 8-3 lead.
The Greene Devils did their best to rally in the seventh inning, but left the tying run on third base. Harmon and Kobe Mundy each pushed across two runs before the Bulldogs could get out of the inning.
Mundy was 2-for-4 for the Devils. Harmon had three RBIs and Quillen had a double.
On the mound Harmon tossed 4 1/3 innings with five strikeouts, one walk and seven hits allowed. Sam Thompson threw 2/3 of an inning with one strikeout, no walks, and two hits allowed. Branton White and Grayson Crosby each threw one inning and kept the Bulldogs from scoring.
The Greene Devils will be back in action on Thursday at home against George Walton Academy, also from the Peach State.
