West Greene 9, Johnson County 5
The West Greene Lady Buffs opened the District 1-2A Softball Tournament on Monday by handing Johnson County a 9-5 loss.
With the win West Greene moves on to the semifinals and it will travel to play South Greene on Tuesday at 5:30 for the opportunity to play in Thursday’s championship.
Morgan Brown was West Greene’s leading player hitting 3-for-3 with two runs, and was the winning pitcher with 6 1/3 innings and one earned run. Hayley Arnold filled the stat sheet by going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs. Abby Cluesman went 2-for-2 with a walk, two RBIs, and a run.
Grainger 12, Greeneville 2
The Greeneville softball team fell to Grainger 12-2 on Monday in its first game of the District 2-3A Tournament.
The Lady Greene Devils will be back in action on Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Claiborne in an elimination game.
Greeneville earned eight hits in the losing effort, but struggled to make it all the way around the base path. Kaley Garland was 2-for-4 with a home run. Kyla Jobe was 2-for-4 with a double, Bayee Ramsey had two hits and Addie Lamons had a double.
Brynlee Jones took the loss on the rubber. In 6 1/3 innings she struck out five, walked three and allowed nine hits.
North Greene 6, University High 0
The North Greene softball team opened the District 1-1A Tournament on Monday by beating University High 6-0.
Hannah Brooks was dominant from the circle, striking out 13, and walking one while scattering five hits.
At the plate Kinlea Eastep was 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored. Matti Phillips had a two-run home run. Josie Graham went 2-for-3 with a double.
The Lady Huskies will take on Cloudland on Tuesday at 5 p.m. with a spot in the championship game on the line.
SOCCER
Chuckey-Doak 9, Cosby 0
The Chuckey-Doak soccer team started the District 1-A Tournament on Monday by beating Cosby 9-0.
The Black Knights sent a flurry of shots at the frame on Monday with Ryland Grindstaff and Brayden Collins both scoring three times. Collins also had an assist.
Jesus Rojas, Dom Hahnlan and Pablo Dimas all had one goal. Sean Humbert had an assist.
Chuckey-Doak’s defense allowed the Eagles to attempt just on shot the whole night.
