The Chuckey-Doak soccer team got the postseason started with a 9-0 win over Cosby on Monday night.
The Black Knights advance to the District 1-A Semifinals on Tuesday where they will travel to No. 2 seed Pigeon Forge with a region-tournament berth on the line.
“I liked the way the boys played together,” Chuckey-Doak coach Steven Neesen said. “We knew we needed to move the ball around on the ground and through the air. And on the other side we had to put a lot pressure on the ball, and that worked out really well. Overall it was a good sound game. We need to learn from some things going into tomorrow, but I think we can go down there and have a chance.”
The Black Knights controlled Monday’s contest from the start with Ryland Grindstaff scoring two goals in the first four minutes. That proved to be more than enough offense to secure the win.
Chuckey-Doak’s defense controlled possession and only allowed Cosby to attempt one shot all night. On the other end of the field the Black Knights blasted 43 attempts with 30 of them on frame.
Brayden Collins continued the early scoring barrage with goals in the in the 10th and 14th minutes. Jesus Rojas scored in the 22nd minute to give Chuckey-Doak a 5-0 halftime lead.
In the second half Grindstaff and Collins each completed their hat tricks while Collins delivered an assist to Dom Hahnlan on a corner kick.
Sean Humbert set up Pablo Dimas for a goal in the 63rd minute, and the game ended in the 67th minute when Grindstaff scored his third goal.
