Final Decision Seems Foggy in Greeneville Middle School and Liberty Bell Soccer Matchup

Greeneville Middle School and Liberty Bell squared off in what appeared to be a tightly contested match between two evenly matched teams, with the Patriots seemingly claiming a 4–1 victory. That was until a late, unusual situation brought the game to a sudden halt and cast doubt on the final result.

With just 26 seconds remaining, officials realized Liberty Bell had been playing with 11 players—despite one of their athletes receiving a red card a little over four minutes earlier. The disqualification should have forced the Patriots to finish the match with 10 players. The oversight created a scenario few soccer fans—or officials—had ever seen. After a lengthy discussion, play resumed for the final seconds, with the matter sent to the TMSSAA office for a final ruling.

Liberty Bell struck early with goals from Shavi Belisle (11th minute) and Gretta Echols (25th minute) to take a 2–0 halftime lead. In the 37th minute, Allison Jimenez extended the margin to 3–0 before Greeneville could mount a response.

“I felt like we played evenly with them,” said Lady Devils coach Rustin Jones. “They just capitalized on their scoring opportunities, and we didn’t.” Statistically, Greeneville held a slight edge in shots (9–7) and shots on goal (7–6).

The Lady Devils finally broke through in the 39th minute when Andrehina Moreno scored off an assist from Tatum Hill. However, less than a minute later, Jacey Sandos sealed Liberty Bell’s scoring, securing the 4–1 margin—at least for the moment, pending the TMSSAA’s decision.
