CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Alaysia Nye scored a pair of first-half goals to help 16th-ranked Lee University to a 4-0 win over Tusculum University in non-conference women’s soccer Wednesday afternoon at the Ray Conn Soccer Complex.
Ava Smith and Nora Burton added goals for the Flames (3-0-0), who outshot the Pioneers (2-1-0) by a 15-6 margin and held a 3-0 lead at halftime.
Nye’s goals, her third and fourth of the season, came in the fifth and 16th minutes to give Lee an early 2-0 advantage. Smith added a goal in the 39th minute for a 3-0 Flames lead, and Burton tacked on an insurance goal in the 83rd minute.
Tusculum had two shots on goal in the match, the first from Amya Parker in the sixth minute and the second from Addison Rishling in the 27th minute. The Pioneers nearly got on the board in the 74th minute, but an attempt from Caroline Heintzelman caromed off the crossbar.
Noemie Tartrou finished with five saves in goal for the Pioneers, while Abby Whitcomb had two stops in the shutout effort for the Flames.
Tusculum had a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks over Lee, while the Flames were called for 10 fouls to six for the Pioneers in the caution-free match.
The Pioneers will play their home opener on Sunday, Sept. 14 against West Alabama, beginning at 12 noon at Pioneer Field.
