JOHNSON CITY – Chuckey-Doak only scored once, but it was all they needed to pull off a 1-0 victory over Lakeway Christian Academy at Providence Academy early Saturday afternoon.
It was a much-needed win for the Lady Black Knights. A slow start to the season had weighed heavy on the girls’ minds and a win on Saturday helped alleviate some of that frustration.
“It’s fantastic. It’s a great feeling. We really needed that W. Our girls have been getting a little bit down on themselves. We’re playing really hard and we’re doing all the things we’re supposed to do. We’ve just been very unlucky in a few games. So, we needed that mentally, physically, everything about us needed that W today,” Coach Ricker expressed.
Hailey Williamson was the lone goal scorer and the difference maker in Saturday’s game. Her goal in the first half gave Chuckey-Doak an early 1-0 lead that they would ride to the finish line.
“We look for Hailey Williamson, we moved her up to offense to score, and we’re looking for her to get the goal in and she did and it was a strange goal from our angle it looked like it maybe hit the corner instead of the goal, but we could tell by the goalkeeper’s reaction that it was a goal. It was a beautiful goal. One of the best goals I’ve seen because it went in,” Coach Ricker explained.
The Lady Black Knights finish their set of games at The Blue Ridge Classic feeling better about themselves after playing a very talented pool of teams.
“Every game that we played up here was a challenge. We go into tournaments and play better teams to see what happens and to get better,” Ricker mentioned.
On Friday the Lady Black Knights started the tournament with a 0-0 tie against Elizabethton and then lost to Morristown East 2-0.
Chuckey-Doak has an important District 1-1A game on their schedule next with Cumberland Gap on the road on Tuesday night.
